Cybersecurity Dos and Don’ts
Kevin Hood, EVP, IT & Compliance
Date: Tuesday, March 8, 2022 (archived)
Cybersecurity threats are constantly evolving and for that reason are a high supervisory priority with the regulators. Is your team knowledgeable about the current cybersecurity threats and trends that could potentially affect your credit union?
This session will help credit unions identify what they should watch out for and how to respond if a threat is identified.
About our presenter:
Kevin Hood has been in the credit union industry for over 22 years. He is currently the EVP – IT and Compliance at 1st University Credit Union. Prior to 1st University, Kevin was a senior IT consultant and part of the information systems team at the Cornerstone Credit Union League since December 2003. Kevin is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and obtained his BBA-MIS from Baylor University.
Board Duties and Responsibilities
As new members join the board, it is essential that they understand their role and how they fit into the organization’s success. This training is excellent for new volunteers and a great refresher for tenured board members.
Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) for Volunteers
The Board is ultimately responsible for providing adequate oversight of the credit union’s BSA/AML compliance program and should be appropriately trained and updated in this area at least annually. This high-level training will provide your credit union directors with the knowledge and resources they need to properly fulfill this requirement.
ALM
As new members join the board, it is essential that they understand their role and how they fit into the organization’s success. This training is excellent for new volunteers and a great refresher for tenured board members.
Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Prevention
Credit unions know their members well and that puts them in a unique position to help prevent abuse of their elderly member. Does your staff know how to spot the signs and what to do if they identify potential abuse?
Financial institutions have an obligation to help “stop the abuse”. In a letter to credit unions (13-CU-08), NCUA strongly encouraged credit unions to ensure staff members are “trained on the potential signs that might trigger a report of elder abuse or financial exploitation”.
Workplace Harassment
Creating a culture and environment for employees that encourages diversity and discourages employment discrimination is vital to your organization’s success. Preventing and eliminating harassment in the workplace involves having good policies that include educating all employees within the organization on harassment and acceptable behaviors.
